Environment/surroundings :
The traditional settlement of Samonas is a complete renovated neighbourhood in the village of Samonas, in the district of Apokoronas Crete, at an altitude of 400 m and at a distance of 25 km from Chania, built on a hill slope and has an orientation that it offers an impressive mountain, valley and sea view from all houses. This house has the most beautiful view of the 5. Peacefull picturesque village which still preserves its authentic character since is really small and quiet.
Here you will experience unique moments of relaxation and complete tranquillity in an authentically traditional area, without missing any of the comforts of the modern way of living.
The reception area looks like a small traditional coffee house, with local delicatessen and homemade products like tsikoudia and rakomelo, wine, olive oil, selfmade dairy products and jams, etc. Guests can buy in this area most types of cretan products as well as a small variety of necessity items.
Area has laptop for free use and wifi internet connection as the entire property as well.
Property has a well equiped fitness room, large wooden-oven and BBQ. Pool has no chlorine, but pure sea salt and can be heated on request.

Environment/surroundings :
The well equiped fitness room has among others a treadmill, power plate, and mountain bikes for those who want to discover the area around. Here there is also a steam bath room for relaxing moments.
A small library, music cds, dvd's and board games are also to be found here.

The property also includes a large traditional wood-oven and barbecue facilities, with a large exterior dining area. In this area you are welcome to join our cretan nights whenever these take place, or to help us make dairy products and traditional soaps.

At the exterior swimming pool of Samonas we do not use chlorine or any other chemical, but only pure sea salt and can be turned on heated mode if necessary or upon request.

Location
Apokoronas Prefecture is well known for its hospitable inhabitants, its beautiful traditional villages and the unique nature beauty. It is worth visiting all of them, since each one has its own particular colour, traditions, folkways and history.
Stylos, Nio Chorio, Armeni, Kalives, Plaka, Gavalochori, Kefalas, Vamos, Fres, Tzitzifes, Pemonia, Paidochori, Exopoli, Kalamitsi, Fylaki, Vrysses, Vafes, Emprosneros, Argyroupoli, Assi-Gonia, only to name a few. The nearest beach in Kalyves is located at a distance of 12 km, while you may also visit the beach of Almyrida (14 km) and Georgioupoli (30 km), all clean and awarded with the blue flags. You may visit Stylos springs, walk along rivers Kiliaris, Xydias or Almyros, marvel the biotope of Georgioupoli and the unique Lake Kourna found in Crete.
If you prefer the mountain, there are also many trails to follow. From Kares you will ascend the small stone-built structures of shepherds at location Gournes.
From Kambi you may start for the Volikas Refuge at an altitude of 1450 m where the only is access is by foot, or Psychro Pigadi, a location with view virtually to the whole north part of the prefecture. And of course the choices are not limited here.
The gorge of Diktamos, 10 km long, is spectacular. Inside the other very near gorge of the area the Ramni-Macheri you will come across the Byzantine church of Agios Nikolaos as well as of Agios Mamas. Other Byzantine monuments, the castle, Panagia Serviotissa near Stylos, Agios Ioannis Stylos, the monastery of Agios Georgios in Karydi.
It would be an omission not to visit Aptera, with remains from the ancient, Byzantine and roman eras. The Minoan Tombs in the same area are also impressive. In the entire region there are more than 200 caves, the nearest Samonas cave located next to our settlement as well as the church of Agios Samonas. However, Chania and our Crete are not limited here.
Maybe all these are just a small, good start. Going around the area you will come across hospitable coffee houses and beautiful taverns with traditional Cretan cuisine. No matter your choice eventually, the only thing certain is that you will be delighted with all your senses. We wish its recollection will bring you back soon to us.
