Katwijk aan Zee - originally a fishing village has become, especially in the last century, a familiar and cozy seaside resort. If you just walk around here you can sense the historical atmosphere. The St. Andreas Church dates back to 1480 and it is the only church in the Netherlands that is right on the promenade. The lighthouse the Vuurbaak (1605) is the second oldest lighthouse in the Netherlands. The sail boat, the old fishing boat and the lighthouse are worth a visit here. Climbing to the top of the lighthouse will offer you a magnificent view of the surroundings. In the Katwijk museum you can learn more about Katwijk.
Panbos is a wooded recreation area in the dunes. Here you can walk around, or just relax, go for a picnic, enjoy sports and games. There are several playgrounds, ponds and a deer park too. A trail has been set for children with ages between 6 and 12 years old, on which they can discover nature. The goose and duck pond and the pancake restaurant should not be missed either when traveling with children here.
The surroudnings of Katwijk invite you for cycling and hiking tours. Close by is the Valkenburg, especially suitable for swimming and surfing. When the weather is not too friendly, the subtropical pool Aquamar in Katwijk and the indoor playground KidsZoo Noordwijkerhout are a great alternative.
In Katwijk you will find special sights everywhere you turn. Go see the Space Expo in Noordwijk, the Duinrell amusement park in Wassenaar, the Linneushof in Heemstede which is the largest playground in Europe, the Kager lakes for sailing, boating, or water sports and the world famous Keukenhof in Lisse where you can enjoy the beautiful flowers.
Magnificent cities such as Haarlem and Amsterdam, Leiden and The Hague are found at between 11 and 50 km from your beach house.
